WASHINGTON — FireRescue1 columnist and former Washington D.C. Fire Chief Dennis Rubin discussed the current problems facing the District’s emergency services and some of the challenges during his tenure in a recent television news interview.
D.C. Fire Chief, Kenneth Ellerbe, wants to put more resources on the street during the peak call hours and less in the midnight hours. The union, however, doesn’t like the idea, because they’re going to have to change the shifts.
“It’s a very difficult job and it’s simply just a different time,” Chief Rubin said. “As the city seems to grow, hopefully [it will] provide more resources across the board. The city needs a whole lot more of everything.”
