Jackson City Manager Warren Renando wrote in a memo that the primary duty of the fire department is to fight or prevent fires

JACKSON, Mich. — For slips, falls, cuts, bruises and other minor medical emergencies, city residents should not expect a big red fire truck at their door with lights flashing.

On Feb. 23, the Jackson Fire Department changed the criteria under which it will roll out the fire rigs for rescues and medical calls. The fire department will still respond to extensive burns, chest pains, reports of possible stroke, crashes with injuries and several other life-threatening emergencies, said Deputy Interim Chief David Wooden.

“It’s going to eliminate some of the excess runs that we tend to go to,” Wooden said. “It frees us up for the stuff we are really needed for.”
