NEW YORK — An off-duty NYPD detective has been charged with brutally beating a retired firefighter he was feuding with on Staten Island, law enforcement sources said Wednesday.
Detective Mike Oner, 41, was driving through Great Kills at 1 p.m. Tuesday when saw the 53-year-old victim walking toward the corner of Gibson Ave. and Giffords Lane.
The 18-year NYPD veteran parked his car, ran across the street and lunged at the former firefighter, punching him in the face repeatedly, sources said. The firefighter, who lives around the corner from Oner, was rushed to Staten Island University Hospital with a fractured eye socket and bruises to his face.
