Prank could cost 12 Cleveland firefighters their jobs

Four captains, two lieutenants and six firefighters received letters stating they will be subject to disciplinary hearings as a result of the incident

CLEVELAND — A dozen Cleveland firefighters could lose their jobs for taking part in a prank that involved urinating on a photo of their former chief.

Cleveland.com reported that the firefighters in question are accused of placing photos of former Chief Daryl McGinnis in urinals at two bars during a graduation party for new firefighters.

Four captains, two lieutenants and six firefighters received letters stating they will be subject to disciplinary hearings as a result of the incident, according to the report.

They face punishments ranging from suspension to demotion to termination.

“We’re definitely not pleased with the alleged actions of these individuals,” Division of Fire spokesman Larry Gray said. “By no means does this reflect the integrity of the department.”

Former Chief McGinnis retired in August after being pulled from his supervisory duty for failing to meet training requirements, according to the report. He also received a verbal reprimand for threatening to stab a firefighter in the neck for violating dress code.
