Tenn. firefighters seeking $8K pay raise

The department has lost 12 firefighters in the last eight months because firefighters went elsewhere for more money

BRADLEY COUNTY, Tenn. — Firefighters in Bradley County are in line to get an $8,000 raise this year if commissioners approve the fire board’s proposal.

Keeping firefighters has been a bit of a challenge for Bradley County. “We probably lost 12 firefighters in the last eight months,” said Fire Chief Troy Maney of Bradley County Fire-Rescue.

Maney said something was missing in their paychecks. The fire chief said starting pay for firefighters is $24,500. “The reason when we did an exit interview with them was all because they needed more money somewhere else,” said Maney. That is a problem Commissioner Howard Thompson said should be fixed.
