3 firefighters flown to hospitals after being injured at Ill. grass fire

Elizabeth Fire Protection District firefighters were injured while battling a large grass fire

JO DAVIESS COUNTY, Ill. — Three firefighters were flown to hospitals after being injured on April 7 while battling a large grass fire in rural Jo Daviess County.

According to the Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office, firefighters responded to the 1700 block of U.S. Route 20, just east of Elizabeth, for a controlled burn that had spread out of control, KWQC reported.

Our Quad Cities reported that while fighting the blaze, three firefighters were injured. An official said the injured firefighters were from the Elizabeth Fire Protection District and were flown to hospitals. The severity of their injuries has not been disclosed.

First responders from several departments across Jo Daviess County responded to the scene to extinguish the fire and assist the injured.
