CHICAGO — A man and two teens were injured Sunday night when a Far South Side home exploded.
The man received burns and other injuries when his home was leveled about 7:30 p.m. on the 12200 block of S. Ada, Fire Media Affairs spokesman Joe Roccasalva said. He was the only person in the home.
The two teens were in a home next door. They received minor injuries.
The blast at the ranch-styled house sent bricks through windows across the street, Roccasalva said.
“It was like a big boom,” said neighbor Cydnee Hunt, 15. “At first I didn’t know what it was. The next I heard was ambulances.”
Fire crews smelled gas and called the incident a possible gas explosion. Peoples Gas spokeswoman Bonnie Johnson said it appeared to be an accident. Nearby homes were evacuated.
