LYONS, Ore. — The Linn County Sheriff’s Office is investigating what may have been a bogus 911 call.
The call of a rollover accident came in the early-morning hours of Sunday.
Volunteer Firefighter Josh Liddell jumped out of bed, drove to the fire station in his pickup and then climbed aboard a fire truck with other firefighters to race to the scene of the accident.
But there was no crash scene. Firefighters had been told a witness to the accident would be there to help them, but there was no one there. The crew then drove back to the Lyons Fire Station.
They quickly realized Liddell’s pickup had been stolen and another firefighter’s car had been ransacked.
Liddell says it’s upsetting to think that someone would take advantage of rescue workers. At the time, he said, he and the other firefighters had a rescue on their minds.
Liddell’s missing pickup is a 1999 Toyota Tacoma two-wheel drive. It’s forest green in color and has tinted windows, black custom wheels and a Lyons Fire Department license plate holder.
