Car crash victim pulls knife on Fla. firefighters

Firefighters called for police assistance and it required four officers to finally restrain the woman

MIAMI — City of Miami firefighters attempting to aid a survivor of a fiery car crash nearly became victims themselves when she pulled a knife on them.

The woman had been involved in a single-car crash on a freeway Monday when Firefighter Robert Webster noticed her wandering in an emergency lane about 200 yards away.

“She held a knife out towards me and like I said she was saying things, but I could not make out exactly what she was saying to me,” Firefighter Webster told WTVJ.

Firefighters called for police assistance and it required four officers to finally restrain the woman, who was transported for psychiatric evaluation.

“This is quite common for us to show up to a scene, be it a traffic accident, a domestic call, even something as simple as someone acting irrational at home. Sometimes it does turn into a whole lot more than you expect it to,” Firefighter Webster said.
