MORRISTOWN, N.J. — A former volunteer firefighter and nationally ranked swimmer died over the weekend from complications stemming from a 2012 crash that left him critically injured, according tohis obituary.
Michael Heaney, who was 25 at the time of the crash on April 11, 2012, was a former volunteer firefighter in Morristown, a graduate of Bishop Eustace Prep school and 2009 graduate of The College of New Jersey, according to his obituary.
He was a nationally ranked swimmer and former swim team captain at TCNJ. “In addition to his many accomplishments, he will be remembered for his generosity and zest for life,” the obituary reads. On April 11, 2012, Heaney, a bicyclist, was struck by a 2008 Toyota RAV 4 SUV on Columbia Road in Morris Township, and suffered head injuries, along with several broken bones, the Morris NewsBee reported at the time.
