WICHITA, Kan. — Several areas across the state saw a lot of lightning Monday night. One homeowner in Wichita thought lightning hit his home.

He called 911 only to have firefighters show up long after they should have. Ryan Bina lives next door and saw a lot of rain and lightning outside his west Wichita home.

“I thought a neighbor a couple houses to the west was hit, and I was standing in the house trying to get the kids to sleep and it lit up the neighborhood from the outside,” said Bina. That was around 8:25 p.m. Monday. At 8:26 p.m. Sedgwick County Dispatch got a call from the homeowner’s alarm company saying there was a fire in the utility room.
