Firefighter, 10 other people injured in Wis. fireworks accident

A firework that malfunctioned exploded while on the ground, causing several other fireworks to explode and sending debris into the crowd of spectators

ROME, Wis. — Two people were hospitalized in stable conditions and nine others, including a Rome firefighter, were injured in a fireworks explosion Saturday night in Adams County.

Two fireworks companies were conducting a professional fireworks display at Romano’s Pizzeria in the Town of Rome at 9:34 p.m. Saturday when a 5-inch tube malfunctioned.

It exploded while on the ground, causing several other fireworks to explode and sending debris into the crowd of spectators, said Adam Grosz, chief of the Rome Police Department.

Rome is in Adams County, in central Wisconsin.
