CAMDEN, Del. — Police are investigating a note left outside an ambulance dispatching facility that threatened firefighters, EMTs and police officers.
Delaware Online reported that the note, discovered last Friday, advises agencies to “give all your employees bullet prof (sic) vest. We’re after all EMS, fire and police. Good luck a——.” They are examining the note and processing it for any potential fingerprints.
Dover (Del.) Mayor Robin Christiansen, also a firefighter, said he first heard about it from Facebook.
“This is really, really sad,” Christiansen said. “Having been a fireman for many years, I think it is unconscionable that you would put a threat out there to the people you would call for any sort of emergency. It doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, but nothing surprises me anymore.”
“Threats to law enforcement are not uncommon whether it be verbally or through social media,” Delaware State Police spokesman Master Cpl. Gary Fournier said. “We take these threats seriously and will continue to investigate any threats made to first responders.”
A picture of the note has been posted across social media.
State Fraternal Order of Police president Fred Calhoun said he had not heard about the note, but said it’s something law enforcement has to take seriously.
“We have obviously had attacks across the country. We have to be really diligent,” Calhoun said. “I find it unnerving that now they’re targeting EMS and fire, because they do a really completely different job than us. They are not armed. They go out there to save lives every day. Sometimes with us, sometimes without us.”
