GLENCOE, Ky. — A 23-year-old man who crashed into an ambulance, killing the patient on board and injuring two EMTs, is scheduled to be sentenced Monday.
Hunter LeGrand was charged with murder, assault, criminal mischief, DWI and leaving the scene of a crash.
The deadly July 2012 crash occurred when two members of the Gallatin County Fire Department were transporting dialysis patient John Little, 59. An SUV driven by LeGrand struck a pole and mailbox, crossed the center line, and collided head-on with the ambulance causing it to flip, according to WCPO.
A medical helicopter transported Little to University Hospital, where he died from his injuries. EMT David Waltz, 25, was also flown to the hospital and EMT Justin Shields, 21, was transported by another ambulance. LeGrand was extricated from his vehicle and airlifted.
Fox News reports that authorities say LeGrand was intoxicated at the time of the crash, and had been involved in a hit-and-run incident just before hitting the ambulance.
