LODD: Ga. firefighter commits suicide while on-duty
Investigation into the circumstances related to the death is underway by authorities
ATLANTA, Ga. — A firefighter committed suicide and was found dead while on-duty in the fire station Tuesday.
Firefighter Katrina Sims, 24, with the Atlanta Fire-Rescue, was a graduate of the AFR Cadet Program and worked at AFR Station 35.
Investigation into the circumstances related to the death is underway by authorities, according to the USFA. However, it is being treated as a suicide by police.
"I know you all share my grief at the loss of such a promising young firefighter,” said AFR Chief Kelvin Cochran. “Please hug your children, your parents, your wife, your husband, all your loved ones, extra tightly tonight. And please keep Katrina's family and friends in your thoughts and prayers.”
