MARAMURES, Romania — A motorist is suing a firefighter who destroyed his car after mistaking steam coming from under the hood for smoke.
Orangenews.com reported that Radu Petrescu, 52, had parked his vehicle and was shocked when he returned to find the hood cut off.
His vehicle included a heating system that uses steam to protect the engine from winter weather, according to the article.
“I couldn’t believe they’d mistaken steam for smoke. They’re supposed to know the difference – they’re firefighters,” said Petrescu.
A cameraman filmed the firefighters using various tools to rip off the hood, according to Orangenews.com.
Petrescu plans to sue the fire department for the cost of repairing his motor, the article said. “Someone has to pay for this and it won’t be me,” he said.
