MARLBOROUGH, Mass. — An off-duty firefighter rescued a driver Thursday after her SUV went off the road and into a pond.
Don Bardsley was driving his daughter to school when he saw the submerged vehicle in a pond with its driver trapped. “As I went into the water, I asked her immediately if she was OK. She was a little stunned. She’s didn’t want to move. She was a little afraid,” he said.
As the Toyota Highlander continued to move into deeper water, Bardsley opened both driver-side and passenger doors, grabbed the woman and carried her to safety.
