OWASSO, Okla. — A firefighter was injured while trying to clean up a crash site Monday.
KTUL reported that the firefighter, with the Limestone Fire Department, was helping clear the scene of a wreck on a highway. He was hit by a passing car, according to the report.
The car also hit and badly damaged a fire truck. The firefighter was transported to a hospital. His condition is unknown but he is conscious.
Fire Chief Carl Smith said that there was no evidence the vehicle made any attempt to stop.
“There were no skid marks,” Chief Smith said.
Depending on whether or not the fire truck is totaled, it could take the department more than a year to get that truck back on the street, according to the report.
The accident is under investigation.
