ANDERSON, S.C. — A Lowcountry firefighter died Sunday night in a single-car accident in the Upstate.
South Carolina Highway Patrol troopers responded to the fatal crash Sunday night involving 38-year-old Randy Joseph Fallaw, a Caromi firefighter. At the Caromi Fire Station on Monday, the flag flew at half staff for Fallaw.
“I haven’t felt this way since the Charleston Nine happened,” said Fallaw’s coworker David Miller. “Randy was always there for us. He was there for his community; he was there for his department. Whatever needed to be done either at 2 a.m. or 2 p.m., he was here.” Fallaw had been a volunteer at the state for five years. He had recently been promoted from firefighter to engineer.
