CHESTERFIELD, Va. — A community is mourning the loss of a 19-year-old volunteer firefighter after unexpectedly dying in his sleep last week.
WTVR reported that volunteer firefighter Jordan Kuzik, 19, died in his sleep from heart complications.
Firefighter Kuzik was set to marry his high school sweetheart in mid-March, according to the report.
“That boy was always smiling, trying to make everyone feel better,” his father, Sgt. James Kuzik, said. “He always wanted to help.”
“He got the firefighter bug at a young age and wasn’t interested in my side of public service,” he added.
Sgt. Kuzik said his son will be laid to rest Thursday.
