GREENVILLE, Texas — Greenville Fire-Rescue has received a $10,866 grant from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation to enhance emergency response communications for its technical rescue teams and training personnel.

According to a prepared statement from the City of Greenville, the funding will allow the department to purchase two-way headsets compatible with its existing portable radio system, improving communication during emergency operations and live-fire training exercises.

Department officials said the equipment will support firefighters working in hazardous and high-noise environments where clear communication is critical to safety and effectiveness.

“These units will streamline communication for our technical rescue teams operating in extreme conditions, as well as for instructors conducting advanced rescue and live-fire training exercises,” said Capt. Green, training officer for Greenville Fire-Rescue.

Greenville Fire-Rescue currently has 48 personnel certified in one or more technical rescue specialties, including confined space rescue, swift water rescue, hazardous materials response, structural collapse, advanced rope rescue, trench rescue and heavy vehicle rescue. Many firefighters hold certifications in multiple disciplines.

Green said reliable communication is one of the most important elements of successful emergency operations and firefighter safety.

“This equipment will allow our teams to operate more efficiently, respond more effectively and help ensure every firefighter goes home safely at the end of the day,” Green said. “We are extremely grateful to the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation and our local Firehouse Subs restaurant in Greenville for this vital support. This grant will have an immediate and lasting impact on our department’s readiness, safety, and service to the community.”
