DHS Announces SAFER Grant Awards

WASHINGTON — The Department of Homeland Security announced several SAFER grant awards this month bringing the total amount of money awarded to more than $10 million. Twenty-seven grants have been awarded to various departments throughout the United States.

The goal of SAFER is to enhance the local fire departments’ abilities to comply with staffing, response and operational standards established by NFPA and OSHA. Specifically, SAFER funds should assist local fire departments to increase their staffing and deployment capabilities in order to respond to emergencies whenever they may occur.
