FDNY to Recieve Grant to Help Support Department’s Recuperation and Care Units

NEW YORK — Curry MacWilliams Janitschke Underwriters, Ltd. (CMJ) and Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company will award a $50,000 grant to the FDNY tomorrow to fund the purchase of new equipment that will benefit the Department’s Recuperation and Care Units (RAC Units). CMJ is directing $25,000 of the funds through the Fireman’s Fund Heritage grant program, while also providing their own matching funds.

RAC Units are specially outfitted vehicles that are used at emergency scenes to provide the necessary resources that benefit firefighters during emergency operations. They typically carry drinking water, chairs, cots, iced towels and misting fans, to confront heat conditions, and heaters and blankets to battle the cold. The funds will purchase a portable generator for running misting fans, portable heaters, a portable tent/canopy to provide shade and ice machines.

The grant package is part of a program, funded by the Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company, which is designed to provide equipment, training and educational tools to fire departments nationwide. Since 2004, the company has donated over $14 million.
