SAGINAW, Mich. — The Detroit Red Wings and its captain, Henrik Zetterberg, teamed up to distribute 500 smoke alarms that will be distributed for free to Saginaw residents.
The donation of the 9-volt battery smoke alarms was presented to Saginaw Fire Department officials by the hockey team and the team captain’s own Zetterberg Foundation.
On a yearly basis, Saginaw firefighters join several departments from across Michigan to collect money and donations of smoke alarms from fans during a designated Red Wings game. The Zetterberg Foundation then matches all funds collected and purchases smoke alarms for the departments to distribute.
