SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, Pa. — A firefighter was saved by his son, who is also a firefighter, after he went into cardiac arrest.

PA Homepage reported that firefighter Les Morgan and his son, Assistant Chief Kyle Morgan, were out on a call when Les went into sudden cardiac arrest.

“No warning, no pain, no shortness of breath – I just went out,” Les said.

Kyle jumped into action to save his dad and yelled at his colleagues to bring in an AED.

“With his situation where his heart was in v-fib without the use of an AED, there was no coming back,” Kyle said.

Kyle said Les was only down for less than two minutes.

“I was very lucky that it happened where it did. That I fell at the right spot or I wouldn’t be standing here,” Les said.

Doctors said that the quick action to save Les saved his life and reduced heart damage after the incident.

Kyle used the incident to remind the public to be aware of AEDs in public places.

“When you walk into an establishment, you should look around and say, ‘OK there’s the AED, there’s the fire extinguisher.’ Something happens, I know where it’s at, it can save my dad’s life, my mom’s life, it can save my life,” Kyle said.

Les spent four days in the hospital and is now doing “shockingly well” as he undergoes cardiac rehab.
