MENOMINEE-DUNLEITH, Ill. — The Menominee-Dunleith Fire Department is preparing for the FCC mandated update of mobile radios used by fire departments.
The rules require that radio frequencies are split to allow programming in what is known as “narrowbanding,” said Menominee-Dunleith Fire Department Chief Cal Cain. “Since this FCC announcement a couple of years ago, we have been slowly trying to replace all our portable and truck radios that cannot accept the new programming.”
The goal has been met, announced Cain this past week.
“Rentech stepped up and donated four new truck radios this year to help us prepare for the change. Rentech has always been very generous to our department in the way of donations and for that we are very thankful.
“The equipment they have provided in recent years has saved our taxpayers many thousands of dollars,"concluded Cain.
