NYC 911 service crashes

Crash did not affect response times, was attributed to ‘routine maintenance’

NEW YORK — Part of NYC’s 911 system went down Wednesday.

However, the crash did not affect response times, according to NY1.com.

The EMS CAD system was offline from 11:10 a.m. to 12:10 p.m., city officials said.

Authorities say backup systems went into effect, and 350 calls that came in during that period were handled manually, according to the New York Post.

Although part of the city’s multimillion-dollar overhaul of 911 operations, the system hasn’t been replaced yet. The overhaul has cost $2.3 billion so far and caused dozens of new problems.

Replacing CAD will cost another $40 million, the Post said.

A spokesman for Mayor Bloomberg attributed the crash to “routine maintenance.”
