PORTLAND, Ore. — Firecom, the leader in the development and production of headsets, intercoms and other communications products introduces the first wireless headset for the fire and rescue industry at the Fire-Rescue International tradeshow in Denver, Colorado, August 14-16, 2008. The new wireless headset connects first responders to the in-cab intercom system, at the pump panel or within 90 feet of the base station. The headset is ideal for command vehicles, on scene first responders and ambulance attendants.
“We looked at other commonly used open license technologies but found that though they worked well for the consumer market, they were not appropriate or reliable enough for the fire and rescue industry,” stated Tim O’Brien, Firecom’s Corporate Sales Manager. “Firecom’s wireless headset operates on an interference free band.”
Firecom’s wireless communication system can handle a large number of headsets in the same vicinity. The wireless headsets and base stations incorporate antenna spatial diversity for a robust RF link. Firecom guarantees a 300 foot open field range and a 90 foot minimum range when installed on fire or emergency vehicles. The RF range technology will always out perform Bluetooth technology. The wireless technology is designed specifically for voice communications.
The wireless headset has two base station configurations. The one channel model uses one radio transmit headset. The five channel model works with up to five non-radio transmit headsets. The system allows up to 40 wireless headsets with any combination of base stations in close vicinity to each other.
The single wireless headset base station accommodates a single UHW/FHW series radio transmit wireless headset. The base station can be connected via a 6 conductor flat RJ-6 cable to any headset port on Firecom’s 30XXR series intercom. The base station will provide full duplex audio and PTT communication between the wireless headset and the intercom.
The multiple wireless headset base station accommodates up to five UHW/FHW series non-radio transmit wireless headsets. The base station can be connected via a 6 conductor flat RJ-6 cable to any headset port on Firecom’s 30XXR series intercoms. The base station will provide full duplex audio communication between the wireless headset and the intercom. Any combination of up to 40 radio-transmit and non-radio transmit headsets connected to single and multiple headset bases can operate simultaneously, in close proximity to each other, for interference free communications.
