NFPA and LEGOLAND Florida Kick Off Fire Prevention Week

Sponsored by

October 4, 2012 – Hundreds of children and families filled the LEGO® City Stage at LEGOLAND® Florida to kick off Fire Prevention Week (FPW) (Oct. 7-13) with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and heard about a number of special activities aimed at providing lifesaving fire safety information to visitors that will take place during the month of October.

“As the official Fire Safety Partner of LEGOLAND Florida, NFPA was thrilled to work with LEGOLAND Florida to reinforce fire safety during FPW and throughout the month of October,” said Lorraine Carli, NFPA vice president of Communications.

NFPA announced that Kathleen Marler of Indialantic, Fla. was the winner of a national video contest where contestants were asked to give their best rendition of “Put the Wet Stuff on the Hot Stuff”, a theme song in the park’s fire safety - themed “The Big Test” live show at the park. The winner received a trip to LEGOLAND Florida for four people with two-day multi-park tickets, two nights of hotel accommodations and up to $2,000 towards travel expenses.

The announcement was part of a special fire safety day with a number of learning stations to impart key messages – test your smoke alarms and have an escape plan. Guests at the park also helped build a giant LEGO mural depicting this year’s Fire Prevention Week theme – Have 2 Ways Out.

“LEGOLAND Florida is a place children and families can learn in a fun and interactive way,” said Samantha Lane, public relations representative of LEGOLAND Florida. “Our partnership with NFPA is a really terrific way to combine fun and fire safety facts.”

Other activities during October related to fire safety at LEGOLAND Florida include Firefighter Fridays, where real firefighters are on hand to speak to children and families about fire safety; HERO Days, special ticket pricing for active and retired police officers, firefighters and EMS employees in the US; and the Junior Master Builder Contest to focus on fire safety.
