REDLANDS, Calif. — Redlands Firefighters broke apart a concrete wall Thursday evening to free a dog whose head was trapped between bricks.

When firefighters arrived on scene at the 600 block of Monterey Street, they found the dog’s head stuck in a lattice-style concrete wall, according to Battalion Chief Jim Topoleski. Preston the Dalmatian had been stuck for over an hour.

Firefighters used an air powered concrete chisel to break apart the wall around his head and free him. It took about ten minutes for three firefighters to safety free Preston.

“It took us a little bit longer because we had to protect him from the tool and flying concrete,” said Fire Captain Dave Ketcherside. “He got pretty excited when we started to break the concrete and we had to hold him from hurting himself.”

Preston was not hurt and appeared happy once released, according to firefighters.
