3 killed in fire truck, SUV crash in W.Va.

PHILIPPI, W.Va. — Three people were killed when the SUV they were in drove into the path of a fire truck en route to a structure fire Tuesday night.

WBOY reported that the fire truck, with the Philippi Volunteer Fire Department, was driving to a structure fire when they collided with a 2010 Honda CR-V.

Witnesses told troopers that the Honda drove into the path of the fire truck, which was operating with lights and sirens activated. The fire truck was unable to stop before colliding with the Honda, according to the report.

Three people in the Honda died as a result of their injuries. State police identified the people as Joseph Kuzinar, 75, Linda Diane Kuzinar, 65, and Jessica L. Paczek, 38, according to the report.

Five firefighters were in the rig and transported to a hospital for evaluation. They were later released.

The investigation is ongoing.
