6 Ky. firefighters out of hospital after fire truck crash

Officials believe one of the truck’s tires slipped off the road and then ran into a large tree, peeling back the metal roof of the cab

ANDERSON COUNTY, Ky. — Six firefighters who were hurt when their fire truck crashed into a tree Tuesday have been released from the hospital.

WKYT reported that the firefighters were on their way to offer assistance with another wreck when the incident occurred.

“They came up on the radio when you could hear a change in their voice,” Battalion Chief Chris Harrod said. “You could tell something had gone wrong.”

According to Harrod, they believe one of the truck’s tires slipped off the road and the truck ran into a large branch, which peeled back the metal roof of the cab.

All six firefighters inside the truck were taken to the hospital and were released by midnight.

“You know, they’re professional firefighters. The volunteer department, they train just as hard as any other paid department in the state of Kentucky,” Harrod said.

The department will begin the process to get a new truck soon, but in the meantime they have another one that they can use.
