GORDON, Wis. — The Gordon fire hall in southern Douglas County was destroyed by a fast moving fire this afternoon, including all of the firefighting vehicles inside.
George Booth, Town of Gordon constable, said the building is a total loss as are at least six trucks inside, including pumpers and tankers and other emergency vehicles, including a snowmobile.
“It’s gone, it’s on the ground,” Booth told the News Tribune in a telephone interview.
No one was hurt in the blaze that broke out just after noon, he said.
Booth said it’s not clear how the fire started in the metal-sided building on Douglas County Highway Y. A thunderstorm with lighting hadn’t quite arrived in the area when Booth said he called the fire in.
Firefighters and trucks from Solon Springs, Minong, Barnes and other agencies were on the scene, Booth said.
“I have a lot of memories in that building,’ he said.
Gordon is about 35 miles south of Superior along U.S. Highway 53.
