Firefighter pinned by truck recovering

Fire officials said Rick Wimberley’s pelvis was fractured in four spots, but that he won’t need surgery and is in good spirits

WYNNE, Ark. — A firefighter is recovering at a hospital after being crushed by a fire truck while responding to a call Saturday.

Arkansas Online reported that firefighter Rick Wimberley, with the Wynne (Ark.) Fire Department, drove his personal vehicle to a call and was pinned between his vehicle and a fire truck responding to the scene. Fire officials said the driver misjudged the distance between the rig and Wimberley.

Fire Chief Lynn Blake said Wimberley’s pelvis was fractured in four spots, but that he won’t need surgery and was in “good spirits,” according to the report. He said Wimberley will be out of the hospital in several weeks.

Chief Blake said the incident was an “incredibly unfortunate accident.”
