FREMONT, Ohio — Fire response service in the Fremont area will improve once the Fremont Fire Department replaces two fire trucks next spring, the fire chief said Wednesday.

Statewide fire response standards mandate fire engines are shifted to backup duty after 15 years, then replaced after 30 years. Fremont Fire Chief David Foos said the fire department has two trucks ready to be replaced: a 30-year-old fire truck at the main station and a 28-year-old fire truck at the east station.

Foos brought representatives from KME Kovatch to the station to look at the brand’s equipment. He said he will compare makes and models of trucks before making a decision this summer.
