In his 32 1/2 years with the Auburn Fire Department, Fire Chief Michael Quill never got to drive the back end of a ladder truck. He mentioned to his colleagues Thursday that was the one thing he wished he had done before retiring.
Friday, Quill’s last day, he got his wish. The Auburn Fire Department arranged for the Aurora Fire Department to bring up a tiller truck for Quill to drive. The truck was previously owned by Auburn.
Quill climbed into the department’s 1979 reserve ladder truck, which was being driven by his brother firefighter Matthew Quill, and headed home.
