LIBERTY, Ind. — The Liberty Volunteer Fire Department needed a “grass rig,” after the only fire truck it had for that purpose burned in a field fire on April 1.
The Webster Volunteer Fire Department had a spare grass rig taking up space in the firehouse. Like the band of brothers they are, the Webster department agreed to sell its truck to the Liberty department at a price it could afford: $1. Liberty firefighters were all smiles when they took possession of the truck on Sunday.
“You can’t believe how ecstatic we were when they gave us the truck,” LVFD public information officer Jim Franklin said. “Firefighters stick together. They stepped up to the plate. It gives us peace of mind. We had no way to get to a field fire.”
