Winter apparatus prep

Tips

By Mark van der Feyst

As the winter months approach, it is important to have fire trucks ready to respond in every type of weather. This means checking all of the winter options on each truck.

This may include checking the heat-deflector shield under the truck for keeping the pump warm, making sure there is enough washer fluid in the reservoir, closing the pump cooler valve, closing the engine cooler valve, making sure the tires have the proper pressure and enough tread for snow use, and ensuring that the chain systems are ready to go.
