Pierce Lands Order For 30 Custom Fire Trucks From Brasilia Federal District Fire Department

Purchase by Brazil’s capital city marks expansion of Pierce brand in Latin America.

APPLETON, Wis. (APRIL 19, 2012) – Pierce Manufacturing, an Oshkosh Corporation (NYSE:OSK) company, today announced that it has received an order for 30 custom fire trucks from the Brasilia Federal District (DF) Fire Department in Brazil. The order encompasses identical Pierce Arrow XT™ pumpers to be strategically deployed throughout the capital city. Delivery of the vehicles will begin in late 2012.

“We are thrilled to be selected by the Brasilia Federal District Fire Department for an order of this magnitude; this is another step forward for the Pierce brand in Latin America,” said Jim Johnson, Oshkosh Corporation executive vice president and president, Fire & Emergency. “The Arrow XT pumper is an ideal apparatus for large metropolitan departments, and the respected Brasilia Fire Department will showcase its capabilities.”

Each of the 30 apparatus features seating for six firefighters, a 400 hp engine, TAK-4® independent front suspension, and Pierce’s exclusive side roll and frontal airbag protection systems. Other notable features include Command Zone™ advance electronics, a telescoping light tower, an 8 kW generator, and a wide range of compartments to carry emergency rescue equipment. The on-board firefighting system on each truck includes a 1500 gallon-per-minute (GPM) pump, a Class A foam system, a compressed air foam system (CAFS), and a 1,000- gallon water tank.

Located in the Central-West Region of the country, Brasilia, the capital city of Brazil, was inaugurated on April 22nd in 1960. Just five years before, the area resembled a desert, with no people, scarce water and few animals and plants. As the national capital, Brasilia is the seat of all three branches of the Brazilian government, and hosts 124 foreign embassies. Brasilia will be featured as a World Cup 2014 Host City.
