QUINCY, Mass. — The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has unveiled the official theme for Fire Prevention Week 2025: “Charge Into Fire Safety: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home.”
The annual campaign, which will run from Oct. 5–11, spotlights the growing risks associated with lithium-ion battery use in residential settings, as these batteries power everything from smartphones and laptops to e-bikes and power tools. The theme aims to raise public awareness about the increasing number of home fires linked to these devices and to promote simple, actionable steps to reduce the risks.
“Lithium-ion batteries are powerful, convenient, and they are just about everywhere,” NFPA Vice President of Outreach and Advocacy Lorraine Carli said in a press release. “Making sure the public knows how to handle them safely is critical to minimizing the potential risks they present.”
The campaign will provide fire departments and safety advocates with educational materials, resources and tools to help spread the message in their communities.
Fire Prevention Week is observed annually during the week of October 9 to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. It is the longest-running public health observance in the United States.
