Homeless man thanks firefighter for saving his life

Trainee Keenan Smith, 26, saw a man collapse on the street and performed CPR

LOS ANGELES — A firefighter trainee and homeless man were reunited Tuesday after he put his skills into action to help save the man’s life.

NBC Los Angeles reported that firefighter trainee Keenan Smith, 26, saw a man collapse on the street and performed CPR.

“I rushed over there and he’s blue, and I’m like, ‘Is anybody going to help?’” Smith said. “I just kept going until signs of life were there.”

Cody, the homeless man, had collapsed from a drug overdose and had hit his head on the pavement.

“I definitely take it as a second chance,” he said. “I’ve never been as scared as I was that day.”

Smith plans to continue to help Cody by giving him clothes and food to get him back on track.

“Saving a life like that, it’s amazing. It was an amazing feeling,” Smith said.
