Sparks, NV– The City of Sparks recently acquired a state-of-the-art foam delivery vehicle that is designed to fight petroleum fires and other fire events with combustible and hazardous components. For instance, the new fire fighting apparatus could be used to put out a fire from a tractor-trailer carrying petroleum, or could even be used to address an incident at Kinder Morgan Energy Partners’ terminal facility (fuel farm) in Sparks.

A dedication ceremony, which will include a demonstration of the new fire fighting apparatus, will take place on Monday, October 24, at 11:30 a.m. at the Kinder Morgan Terminal located at 301 Nugget Avenue.

“Not only was Kinder Morgan instrumental in funding nearly all the costs for the new equipment, but they have been proactive in working with our fire department to improve the storage facility’s fire protection system,” said Sparks Mayor Geno Martini. “We greatly appreciate their generous support and partnership in this important endeavor.”

The vehicle was constructed using an existing city fire department vehicle that was fitted with a custom design foam delivery system supplied by Kinder Morgan. The new apparatus improves the Sparks Fire Department’s ability to mitigate an incident with greater efficiency and control, increases safety for firefighters and the public, and minimizes environmental impacts.

The four-year project was made possible by Kinder-Morgan Energy Partners along with High Desert Fire Equipment, FoamPro, Hi-Tech Fire Apparatus, Custom Performance Restoration, and Advanced Powder Coating, Inc.
