Donation of Portable Generator from Northshore Power Systems Aids Fallen Firefighters’ Memorial Rig

MILWAUKEE - Northshore Power Systems (NSPS), the exclusive licensee for Honeywell Generators, recently donated a 7,000 watt portable generator to the Detroit Firemen’s Fund Association, an organization dedicated to providing support to the families of fallen firefighters.

Tom Suchora, Secretary of the Firemen’s Fund, and Russ Wilkinson, Instrumentation Engineer for Mahle Powertrain, a contracted testing partner for Honeywell Generators, accepted the HW7000EH portable generator from Mark Stiegel, Project Design Manager for Northshore Power Systems at the NSPS Ann Arbor, Mich., office.

The Firemen’s Fund is nearing completion of the restoration of a 1937 Seagrave Sedan Pumper, which preserves the cherished tradition of carrying a firefighter who has died in the line of duty to their final resting place. The classic-style hearse will be provided to the fire department of any fallen firefighter in Michigan and Windsor, Ontario, free of cost. The hearse will also have its lights continuously illuminated and blinking during the wake and funeral, made possible by the portable generator.

“We are honored to a part of this longstanding tribute to the firemen who so selflessly dedicate themselves to the safety of our communities,” says Stiegel. “This quiet, yet powerful and durable generator will assist in recognizing their service for years to come.”

The donation was initiated by Wilkinson, the son of a retired Detroit firefighter, who performs testing on Honeywell generators and has been working on the seven years-long restoration of the Seagrave. He approached Northshore Power Systems in the initial hopes that they could provide a gently-used model to help power the hearse.

“Northshore Power Systems went above and beyond, donating a brand-new generator with plenty of power for our fire truck,” says Wilkinson. “A fireman’s final ride should always be on a fire engine, and we can’t thank them enough.”

“This generator is a truly welcome gift,” emphasizes Suchora. “The Firemen’s Fund is always grateful to any organization that helps us continue our mission and pay tribute to our fallen servicemen.”
