During forcible entry operations, it is hard to see or gauge how far the halligan bar has to travel in between the door and the jamb in order for it to be effective. A flashlight would work, but with limited hands and time, a visual indicator can be better.
In this photo, you can see a small notch near the forks of the halligan bar. This has been added to indicate the distance the fork has to travel into the door jamb. This small notch is a visible indicator for the firefighter operating it. A firefighter can now see or feel how far it has travelled.
