Active shooter events have become a tragic staple of our news cycle. The FBI reports there were 277 active shooter incidents in the United States between 2000 and 2018, with more than 2,400 individuals killed or wounded. And the statistics paint a bleak picture for what’s ahead, with the number of incidents typically increasing year over year. In 2000, just one year after the shooting at Columbine High School in Colorado, there was one active shooter incident registered by the FBI. There were 30 such incidents in 2017 and 27 in 2018.

This eBook offers a closer look at active shooter response efforts in the context of this first-of-its-kind standard, a deeper understanding of how NFPA 3000 was developed, and tips for implementing programs that address active shooter events. The ultimate goal: protecting communities while keeping responders safe.

In this free eBook, brought to you by FireRescue1 Academy, you’ll learn best practices you can use to prep both firefighters and fire leaders to effectively respond to active shooter incidents, including:

  • School safety: Is your active shooter response ready?
