Use the void spaces

Tips

By Mark van der Feyst

Fire helmets have a void space that sits above the webbing of the head harness. This is an excellent storage spot for two important items that we can use at any time. The first is a flash hood. An older or unused flash hood stuffed in the void space adds some extra thermal protection for your head.

The other item is a N95 mask. This mask is there for immediate access whenever we need to have such protection. At vehicle crash scenes where glass is being cut or patient care is being administered, the N95 can be quickly accessed without having to go back to the apparatus.
