Practice opening elevator doors
By Mark van der Feyst
Having a set of elevator keys in the kit is essential. The keys allow us to open the door by turning the mechanism to unlock it. This operation takes some practice to get to know exactly how the key works. Sometimes this is based upon feeling the key work behind the elevator door, a matter of measuring how far the key has to go in to work properly or just by sound.
No matter the method, it will take practice. This is where training will come in. Go around your response area and practice opening elevator doors using the keys provided. This should be coordinated with the building maintenance department, but will prove beneficial in the long run.
