HUNTINGTON STATION, N.Y. — Two firefighters were injured in a fire in Huntington Station Thursday afternoon, officials said.

The Huntington Manor Fire Department was responding to a “well-involved” house fire at the site of a vacant home for sale on East 20th Street when part of the back of the home collapsed, said first assistant chief Frank McQuade.

When the house collapsed, the first responders were pulled out, but two were injured, McQuade said. Both firefighters suffered knee injuries, he said, and were taken to Huntington Hospital, where they were treated and released.

McQuade said he could not speculate on the cause of the blaze or where it started. He said the Town of Huntington Fire Marshal and Suffolk County Arson Squad are investigating.
