DULUTH, Minn. — A fire department has a new tool to help them communicate with the deaf.
KBJR6.com reported that the Duluth Fire Department has an app on its iPads to help communicate with people who are deaf or hard of hearing.
“What we have found is an app that allows us to either type or speak into the iPad and it has an animated character that will actually translate into sign language,” firefighter Jake Gunderson said.
The app, called “ProDeaf,” still needs improvement since the deaf person doesn’t have a way to communicate back.
The fire department said they will have the person write or text a response in order to know what they need.
