Ohio fire dept. stuck without ambulance

The department is relying on mutual aid agreements to help respond to 911 calls

EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio — After three days of use, the East Cleveland Fire Department’s donated ambulance is out of commission, leaving the department strapped for 911 calls.

The department’s ambulance stopped working Sunday morning, the East Cleveland Firefighters Union wrote on their Facebook page.

The department asked residents not to call 911 unless it is a “true medical emergency that requires a medical transport. We are currently relying on mutual aid ambulances from the surrounding communities, and they must be utilized for serious medical calls only.”

Although they are without an ambulance, the department is still responding to calls using their engine, staffed with paramedics. The engine does not have a stretcher nor is it able to provide transport to patients who need it.
